Marble Mosaic

Marble inlay is an old and skilled Damascene craft.

It involves assembling pieces of marble of different colors, shapes, and sizes to create precise geometric patterns and decorative designs.

This craft flourished in Damascus and its countryside, and also spread to Aleppo and Hama, where Syrian artisans excelled in designing floors, basins, and pulpits for mosques and palaces.

The carved marble basins were exported to palaces and salons in the Gulf and around the world, making this craft famous internationally.

Syrian marble inlay is distinguished by complex geometric designs using lines and Arabic braids, reflecting the creativity and high skill of Syrian artisans throughout the ages.
