Carpets making industry has been known in Damascus in various areas such as Kisweh, Zabadani, Qalamouns and others. This handmade industry has high quality and beautiful adornment as in the Persian and Turkish carpets.

Carpets making is a rural craft that is based on animals’ hairs, Syrian practiced this craft in their rural villages in the plains and mountains, carpets are woven on Arab handmade looms mainly using wool for the carpets and animals hairs for the rugs and the rugs making industry has been found in the Syrian desert where they used special looms.

They make special poles of colored wool threads using a scheme drawn in the colored dripping method in which each point makes a fixed stitch and woven in a way that it can be untied.
